The Bingham
12" Raised Relief Desk Globe
...from National Geographic
Named after the famous explorer Hiram Bingham who discovered the ancient
city of Machu Picchu in 1911 and subsequently became the first recipient of
a National Geographic society archaeological grant. The Bingham represents
the classic yet bold styling of its namesake explorer. Features the latest
National Geographic cartography with clear bold fonts and colorful map
design. The globe and antique die-cast semi-meridian are supported by a
unique two-tone solid wood base with distressed walnut and ebony finish.
The up-to-date National Geographic globe ball is produced in the
United States by Replogle Globes. It is expertly crafted using 100%
re-claimed paperfiber.
Globe details include over 4,000 place names,
countries represented in contrasting colors, delineated U.S. states, and
bodies of water. Raised relief provides a better perspective of topographic
features such as mounting ranges. Ocean floor trenches, basins, and ridges
are illustrated through detailed visual relief shading. The meridian is
fully calibrated and a time dial is featured at the North Pole.
