This contemporary model is truly unique. The 17 inch high base and semi-meridian are delightfully different. The semi-meridian, fixed at the appropriate twenty three and a half degrees of tilt, consists of 16 layers of natural beech wood, hand laminated together and bent to curve around the globe. The base (also of natural beech wood) and the semi-meridian are hand-polished with natural beeswax. The result is a base from the earth showcasing a globe of the earth - in pristine and elegant fashion.

Globe is pictured at right with light on, showing its outstanding natural coloration which highlights vegetation cover, ecological regions, and physical attributes. When turned off, the physical coloration is subdued, revealing an aesthetically pleasing political map, as shown in the picture below. The 16 color, layered process is among the highest quality illuminated globes available anywhere. The highly detailed, 14" globe offers more than 30% more surface area than the standard 12" globe. This leaves more room for more text labels and intricate details, which this globe is packed with. Anyone familiar with National Geographic maps will feel comforted by the fact that the globe uses their proprietary fonts and colors, to present a globe that may be even more visually appealing than their award-winning maps.
