16" Old World Style Illuminated Desk Globe from Columbus

The Dresden combines old world style cartography with up-to-date to political information that reflects the current state of the world. Inspired by cartographic work of the 16th and 17th centuries, the globe features a subdued color scheme in warm tones. Softly shaded parchment colored continents contrast beautifully with the light blue ocean hue. Mountain ranges appear hand drawn in the manner they would on a 16th century map and the seas are illustrated with an assortment of old sailing ships, mythic sea monsters and elaborate compass roses.

The globe ball that rests in a modern metal stand and meridian with high gloss brass finish. The antique styling of the globe is combined with current up-to-date geopolitical information. Over 4,400 place names are labeled; accompanying brass and wood magnifying glass allows for closer examination of globe features.  

Each globe is handcrafted in Germany using traditional globe making techniques. Individual map gores are applied to a high quality acrylic sphere by hand with unsurpassed precision.
