Captain Cook And Subsequent Circumnavigators To The Present Period 1802 ... With
Additions To 1807. Retailer's label (W.& S. Jones. Holborn. London) Obscuring lower part of
title cartouche, rubbed to the point of illegibility. Aaron Arrowsmith engraved
gores for Bardin globes of this period and this information may lie beneath the
retailer's label. T.M. Bardin London 1807.
Period George III full mount
Chippendale stand of black walnut, conforming ferules with brackets supporting
horizon ring with engraved scale raised on a column with spiral turned stem and
tripod cabriole legs ending in pointed pad feet. Restorations to orb, gores and
scale, a couple brackets replaced. Modern brass finial and time indicator hand.
Original brass meridian and attachments cleaned and polished. Couple small holes
at South Pole. Height 25 inches. An elegant and classic English globe of
unusually fine proportions. Yonge lists a globe with the same surface, 1802 but
dated to 1805, in the Wilson Museum, Castine, ME. Literature: Ena L. Yonge. A
