8 inch hollow orb probably of
copper. Time scale at North Pole missing but pointer still present. Copper
engraved gores, hand colored. Oceans in dark tan. Surface darkened by paste
contact and with metal orb. With Ecliptic, tropics of Cancer and Capricorn and
analemma. Corroded copper half meridian on turned walnut column on round turned
walnut base. Once relaquered. Attractive period globe with pre-Gadsden Treaty
borders in the southwest U.S. Tooley's Dictionary of Mapmakers credits Malby
with a terrestrial globe in 1857 and this appears to be earlier than that.
