NIMS/COPLEY.
Improved Globe. Manufactured for H.B. NIMS & CO./CHARLES COPLEY BOSTON/TROY,
N.Y. 1861.
16" hollow orb weighted
with buckshot. Time dials at both North and South Poles. Oceans finished in
parchment tan with steel engraved gores. Ecliptic shows months, Equinoctial
colure and analemma. On handsome turned basswood stand, full mounted with
horizon ring with colored scale. Surface shows Colorado Territory in the United
States (organized 1861) but does not show the towns of Blagoveschensk and
Nicholaievsk, founded in 1858 and 1851, in the Saghalian Oula, a Russian
district just north of Manchuria. Gores copyrighted 1852. Stand and horizon ring
scale in fine original condition. Surface with some damage at South Pole and in
North Atlantic. Professional repairs. Overall handsome globe.
