Coated paper gores over metal
and plaster, time dials at North and South Poles. Oceans finished in olive green
with Equinoctial Colure, Meridian of Greenwich, Elliptic line and figure-8 form
analemma. Surface shows ocean currents and ice drift lines, a subject of
interest after the Titanic. Massive solid cast bronze full ring meridian and
cherry wood horizon ring, raised from the Rand McNally gothic revival bronzed
cast iron table stand. Raised on tripod legs with incurvate knees, fleur de lys
foliage and claw and ball feet. Base motif of Rand McNally trade ciphers with
globe bosses. The optimum pre-World War I globe with Europe showing the Austro
Hungarian Monarchy and all original African colonies. Bottom grommet repaired,
some surface rubbing and losses, cherry horizon ring a restoration. Dramatic
appearance with overall height of 32 inches.
