UNUSUAL ALUMINUM
ORB ON MODERNISTIC METAL BASE
Hammond,
C. S. & Co. Hammond's 9 Inch Terrestrial Globe. --3036--Principal Steamship
Routes With Distances In Nautical Miles. Principal Transcontinental Railways.
Copyright Patent Pending. New York/Brooklyn/ Boston. c1930.
Dull finish paper gores over
aluminum orb, time dial at North Pole. Oceans finished in a dark pea green,
nautical distances and analemma scale. Surface a bit more detailed than earlier.
Mounted without meridian on a silvertoned cast iron modernistic stylized base
marked C.S. Hammond & Co. Brooklyn, N.Y. Shows Polish Corridor in Europe,
Leningrad in Russia, Manchuria still independent, Korea not called Chosen.
Although Hammond made a real effort in the 1920's to market elegantly mounted
home globes, the map surfaces were a bit too simplified for such fine mountings.
Surface darkening and rubbing with losses.
